10 Wisdoms of Ramadan
Found this article but I forgot where i got it from.
1. Taqwaa – this is explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an as one of the purposes of fasting. For 30 days we lesson our desires and by abstaining from them and show Allah that we are able to live without our most essential items for a period of time.
Gem: if you can live without your most essential things (food) for a time, then how about the sins which we do not need?
2. The Poor – we are reminded of those who abstain from these essentials throughout most of the year. Through this we come to appreciate the blessings of things like water.
Gem: We also come to realize the even the smallest blessings that we take for granted. Ex. like being able to fall sleep, to urinate.
3. Lessens our physical desires and increases our spiritual ones – During this month there is less emphasis on the body and more on the soul. By lessening our physical appetite we actually increase our spiritual capacity.
Gem: the Qur’an is a source of nourishment. The next time you feel hungry, pick up a Qur’an and it will satiate your appetite.

HADEEL AL-SHALCHI
August 21, 2009 12:46 ETFor the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Egyptian fruit sellers have named their best dates of the year after President Barack Obama in a sweet tribute to the American leader for his outreach to the Muslim world.
Dates are a traditional food for Ramadan — which begins Saturday in most of the Islamic world — since the Prophet Muhammad is said to have used them to break the month’s sunrise-to-sunset fast each evening.
In Egypt, shops have created a new tradition of naming their best and worst dates to catch attention and boost sales — giving a little reflection of the political mood.
Obama’s vault to the top of the Egyptian date-scale comes after he delivered a landmark address in Cairo in June, saying he wants to improve American ties with Muslims around the world. Those ties were deeply strained under his predecessor, George W. Bush, who was widely resented in the Arab world — and whose name was given to the worst quality dates in Egypt in past Ramadans
“We love Obama and so we named our best dates for him,” said Atif Hashim at his busy shop in downtown Cairo.
Huge barrels in his shop were piled with “Obama” dates, selling for just under $2.50 a pound ($5 a kilogram). For an additional dollar, there is an even better date, labeled on a sign as “Super Obama.”
It is pretty big to hit the trending topic list on Twitter. I didn’t know there was that many Muslims on twitter to make such big of an impact.
Update it reached 5th spot the last time i checked. ( To my estimate that’s about 250 ramadhan tweets per min)
It was higher than Inglourious Bastard which i think is opening today. Not bad.
I grew up with music by Dawud Wharnsby and this song does bring back some memories.
Lyrics
Well, weve scanned the sky and weve sighted the moon
And we welcome the month of Ramadan
When well fast together for Allah, to help and strengthen our iman
