It has taken President Obama just 10 months to achieve something each of his immediate predecessors delivered in their final year in office: failure in the Middle East peace process. Riding a wave of optimism in January, the President on his second day in office named retired Senator George Mitchell as his Middle East special envoy, tasked with kick-starting the dormant negotiations over a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Despite his best intentions, Mitchell’s — and Obama’s — efforts have managed only to undermine peace advocates on all sides and have pushed hopes for a final agreement into the distant future. The President now faces tough choices over how to proceed.(See pictures of Israeli soldiers sweeping into Gaza.)
Obama distinguished himself from his predecessors by attacking the problem early; Bill Clinton and George W. Bush waited until their lame-duck years to do so.

First impressions Round up
If you were at RIS on Friday you would have notice the crowd was bigger than last year. It was Estimated that 17,000 people were there. The hall was soo packed that there were people standing all the way at the back.
Two things RIS needs to improve on: better crowd control and more food vendors. There is only one major exit and entrance for the major hall. So it takes about 10 mins to get out; the bazzar has bigger entrance and exitwith no wait time . With 17,000 people you would think they would have alot more food vendors; but they don’t. With the few vendors they do have the line ups are between 15 and 20 mins wait.
With all that said this is still the best convention to go to in North America

“Built in 1923, the building at 45 Park Place was bought by Sy Syms, the discount retailer, and a partner, Irving Pomerantz, in 1968, and became one of the early Syms stores. The store closed in 1990, the partners parted ways, and the Pomerantz family then leased the building to the Burlington Coat Factory. On Sept. 11, the store, with 80 employees, was one of 250 Burlington outlets nationwide owned by the Milstein family. That morning, recalled Stephen Milstein, the company’s former general manager and vice president, the staff was in the basement when a piece of a plane plunged through the roof, either from American Airlines Flight 11 crashing into the north tower at 8:46 a.m., or United Airlines Flight 175 crashing into the south tower at 9:03.”To Continue to Read the full article Click Here

Mosqueone.com is the first-ever oral history project of Muslims in Canada. It is a window into Toronto’s first mosque, which was an old shop, purchased in 1961, at 3047 Dundas Street West. Oral history is a way of putting people’s own memories and perspectives on the record, unmediated by outside observers.
The Dundas St. mosque touched the lives of many new Muslim immigrants to Toronto. Mosqueone.com captures the stories of eight of its pioneers. Their stories are a powerful corrective to the prevalent image of Muslims as newcomers unable to adjust to the norms and values of Canada. Snippets of their perspectives can be viewed here in edited video clips, with full transcripts available for those who want more depth.
